With a black man having a 50/50 shot at being the next President of the United States of America, what is a lefty to do? Well, complain about racism in America, of course - from Daily Kos:

Many people find straight-up discussions of the subject uncomfortable. Or irrelevant. One expression I have heard for the past 20 or so years from whites – both friends and others – goes along the lines of: why do black people (Indians, etc.) keep bringing up racial issues? Things are different now. True. In my lifetime, progress has been made. But race and racism still factor greatly in the social, cultural and political life of this nation. Look at voter suppression. Look at our prisons. Look at our reservations. Look at the Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

Ah, that ever reliable leftwing disconnect from reality - who ran the 9th Ward? Black people. Who ran New Orleans? Black people. Who's responsible for what happened in the 9th Ward? White people - and incredibly racist mental formulation, and put as an attempt to verify racism in others...that aside, I'm puzzled over how our social and cultural life is infused with racism...oh, to be sure, there are still people out there who want to keep the races separate, but as most of these are black "civil rights" activists, I fail to see how this is a manifestation of racism. So, one is left with the presumption - the lefties who write this nonsense don't even realise what they are writing.

Over at the other blog, I have noticed this -after years of debating leftists, I have not just found that facts don't sway them, but that they can't even grasp concepts outside the "party line", as it were. Example: leftists are flabbergasted to learn that I, conservative Republican, am opposed to the death penalty. This doesn't fit the mental construct of their world, and so such information is almost always rejected or ignored by leftists I debate with...can't say the number of times lefties who should know better hit me with the "if you're anti-abortion, how can you be in favor of the death penalty?" argument. It is a leftwing dogma that pro-life people favor the death penalty ('cause they're hypocrits, ya see?), and a pro-lifer opposed to the death penalty doesn't compute.

Similarly, my support for the liberation of Iraq is either due to my racism or my loyalty to Big Oil; my support for tax cuts must be because I'm rich (even though I'm very middle class); my opposition to gay marriage must be a result of homophobia, etc, etc, etc. For the author of the quoted piece, the fact that Obama might not make it must be because of racism - 'cause that is the only explanation allowed on the left for a black man failing to win. The fact that he brings much less to the table than Hillary - and is a non-entity compared to McCain - isn't factored in at all...if Obama doesn't make it, its because racist Amerikkka won't vote for a black man.
